Swansea Athletics Interview

goalunited LEGENDS - Manager Interviews

Interview with Neil from Swansea Athletics

How did you discover the game?

I was introduced to this game by an old school friend back in 2011 originally. There was a small group of us all competing in the same league, so it was a good laugh.

Unfortunately, as is the case with most things it fizzled out, but after a while I remembered the game and signed back up again.

Which real team do you support?

I am actually a Liverpool fan, I always have been since I can remember.

Game feature you would introduce?

Tactical changes and substitutions, ideally at any point during the match but at half time would be a good start point.

Game feature you would get rid of?

Any use of cards, particularly if they can be replaced with tactical changes and substitutions.

General thoughts on the game and how long you see yourselves playing the game?

I hope it will be for a long time. However, I think the game needs serious reform.

Whether we like it or not, certain leagues are dying out (I’m sure most of you have the lack of depth and tiers in certain leagues) while others thrive.

Personally, I would like to see certain leagues merged or something similar, creating a much bigger league with more depth and competition. So, for example, the BI & GB leagues or the BI & EN leagues mixed together. Obviously, that wouldn’t be easy to do, but you get the general idea.

Proudest Moment so far in your Goal United career?

Winning my first title was fantastic, but winning the title with my B team felt like more of an achievement because it was literally against all the odds (so much so, I was almost relegated the following season! lol).

Team you have most trouble playing?

Tamerton seem to be a bit of a bogey team for me at the moment, on paper we should have enough to do the job but it never seems to go our way! :-/ lol.

Do you have any targets for the future?

The only competition that has eluded us is the International Masters, I have no idea why. I have won it with my other teams, just not with the 1st team… yet ;-)

Most Disappointing Moment?

Making it to an IM final, only to let it slip through my fingers in the final moments. Screwed by GU as is often the case :-p

If you had to offer one piece of advice to a new player starting today, what would it be?

3 main things really;

1.Read - All the information is out there to help you not only play this game, but to also help master it. There is no blagging this game.

2.Commitment - To make it to the top league and then stay there, requires a certain amount of commitment. Even when your patience is wearing thin or GU has screwed you yet again, you need to stick with it.

3.Show a bit of class - There will be times when results don’t go your way or you feel a bit cheated, but showing a bit of class in defeat goes a long way.

If you could say something to the owners/developers of this game, what would it be?

Please consider reforming the game in 2 key areas:

1. Condense certain leagues and increase competition, no one likes to see a lack of depth/tiers and countless dummy teams. Together we can be better and stronger, merging certain leagues will help with that.

2. Half time changes are needed, allowing the user to change players or tactics (or ideally both). This will make it much more entertaining and improve consumer engagement, particularly on match days (therefore increasing advertising/sales opportunities). Win/win.
